Our Hyper Local - ‘Soil Booster’ Compost

Our compost starts with our pick-up and drop-off customers in Arcata, Ca. We use an e-bike with a trailer to pick up food-waste from the community, diverting over 500 lbs of food-waste each week . Not only do we divert food waste from the landfill, which reduces methane emissions, we create an abundant soil boosting resource - Compost.

All of our compost is processed aerobically and goes through both mesophilic and thermophilic stages (our sifted compost is also fully cured). By combining Arcata’s food-waste (nitrogen component) with wood-shavings (carbon component), maintaining the proper ratio of carbon to nitrogen, keeping an eye on the moisture levels, and occasionally flipping or aerating the pile we create a perfect environment for decompostion to take place where the bacteria, fungi, and microorganisms can do their magic.
